An expert advisor in MetaStock is a bundle of rules built around one trading approach. Attach it to a chart and it works four ways at once:
- Symbols: buy, sell and caution markers plotted directly on the bars where the method's conditions fire.
- Trend ribbons and highlights: background shading that shows at a glance whether the method reads the market as bullish, bearish or neutral.
- Commentary: a written explanation of what the expert sees in the chart in front of you, updated as the data updates. For a newer trader this is the closest thing to sitting beside someone who trades the method.
- Alerts: notifications when a condition triggers, so you are not staring at charts waiting for it.
MetaStock 20 ships 58 of these, built on methods from recognised trading authors and classic technical approaches: think directional movement, Darvas-style boxes, Elder-style triple screens and the familiar oscillator systems. The exact roster shifts between versions, so treat the trial as the authoritative list. Japanese candle pattern recognition, once a US$399 add-on, is now included free and pairs naturally with the experts.
